What blocks do I need?

When the delivery guy comes with your home, he’ll need blocks to set your tiny house on to level it. They are available at most hardware stores, and below are the links to Lowe’s.

These are pier and beam homes with 4 beams (sometimes called skids) running the full length of the home. All of your floor joists are attached to these beams. Usually, when the movers set your home on-site, they will level the home on a stack of blocks every 6 feet, down the length of each skid. So the easy equation on how many blocks you need is:

  • The length of the home
  • Divided by 6 (round up)
  • Times 4

So if you have a 40ft long home, divide 40 by 6 (6.66667) and round up to 7. Then multiply times 4 (beams), which is 28 stacks of blocks.

In each stack, you’ll need at least a 4-inch-tall and an 8-inch-tall block. This usually raises the bottom of the home about 18 inches off the ground. If you desire the house to be higher off the ground, you may need additional blocks. If you have any questions on how many to get, the mover is the ultimate authority and is happy to let you know.
